What is Chasing For A Cure? Chasing For A Cure started out three years ago in 2011. Starting out
small with just 31 participants the small group of dedicated swimmers
raised over six thousand dollar's. Only a year later gained 15 swimmers
and eight thousand dollars going to The Canadian Cancer Society. To join Chasing For A Cure gather a team of five or more swimmers and have a fun filled day in the pool! Build your friendships and help others fight Cancer! Collect pledge to support your team and help Cancer Patients with the fight of their lives. How dose Chasing For A Cure work? Chasing For A Cure is run a lot like relay for life, however there’s a group of dedicated swimmers in the pool. To begin gather a team of five or larger. As group you can decide to swim a set amount of time or a set distance to swim, then trade off to the next participant. This event is run similar to a continuous relay. Once the participant has swam their chosen amount the next swimmer dives in after them, they swim a lap together then the first swimmer gets out. All team members don't have to be there all day as twelve hours is a long time. However remember when organizing make sure everyone knows who's going to swim and when, this makes it allot easier for everyone the day of the event. This event is continued for 12 hrs in hopes to raise money for the Canadian cancer society, helping people touched by cancer. Reasons for the event:
Fourteen years ago the future of our family was significantly
changed. Chase at the age of 22 months old was diagnosed with
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Now at the age of sixteen he is joining
his older sister, Samantha, once again in the fight against
cancer. With Chasing For A Cure in its third year parents Teresa and
Kevin could not be any prouder of their children joining them
once more for an emotional day in the pool. Where does the money go to? Chasing For A Cure supports the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society. The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk eduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families.
